Dear St. Francis Xavier Families,

Along with looking forward to the cool weather, we look forward to being together next Saturday, "Surfing with the Saints" (that's you), in the courtyard for our school auction. If I can only keep my husband from wearing the flamingo surfer shorts our kids gave him for Father's Day...

Coming together to have fun is almost a luxury in our busy lives and yet, we do it for our kids. And it's good for us, too. One of the fastest growing losses from our lives is a sense of community. A few years back the bestseller, "Bowling Alone" mourned the loss of people taking the time to enjoy one another's company. We have been very fortunate to have a strong community at St. Francis Xavier. I often find myself saying that while there are still resources we need, as a school we are relationship rich. People are there for each other in good times and in bad.

You've felt it; that tug in your heart to do something more for someone in need, to support someone who's struggling, and the wish to do anything to help. Let the Auction be one of the ways you help simply by showing up for one another. Your fellow parents who have been hard at work for months creating this crazy fun evening, and skulking the wider community for great items for your to bid upon, do all this with a sense of mission for the greater good: all of our kids, our school, our second home.

In an interview with a very wise 8th grader this week, she summed it up perfectly. "I used to think I was going out to help people with needs, but then I learned to simply be with those people I came to serve. We're the same; we're all created by God." Amen. See you Saturday.

Grateful for you,
Ms. Kim Cavnar, Principal

Service Opportunity for 7th & 8th Grade
Students and Parents
The Parish needs students and parents to help to sell tickets after Mass for the Tom Booth concert. You will need to arrive 15 minutes prior to Mass or attend Mass and see the usher after communion.  Ticket sales will last about 15-20 minutes after mass ends. Eighth grade students may count this towards their service hour requirement (other). The parish is counting on you, so if you sign up you must keep the commitment or find a replacement.  To sign up click on the following link.  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c4eadad229-tombooth
