Congratulations to Sophia Alameddin
Her artwork was selected to be in the student art section of Sports Illustrated Kids Magazine, August 2015 Issue.  The artwork she submitted was part of an assignment in Mrs. Aspen's art class using the technique pointillism.  Pointillism uses tiny dots of primary colors to create pictures in which secondary colors can be seen.  Sophia did a great job creating her pointillism art.

Dear St. Francis Xavier Families,

Perhaps you've heard the expression that Work is a 4-letter word. Who would work if they could opt out? As we prepare for the celebration of Labor Day in our school community, it seems timely to give thanks for the many ways we work or labor, as a way we give God glory.

Thank you for modeling for your children that effort is a good thing because it shows you care when you give your best. This year students will receive an effort grade to help build an awareness of the value of a work ethic. This has been a hallmark of Catholic schools for decades. Natural intelligence is not enough; it must be cultivated with effort.

Thank you to the group of parents gathered outside yesterday morning in the courtyard trying to imagine how to arrange the auction so that it's fun and successful in helping the school meet the gap between tuition and the actual cost to educate. Thanks to the dads who refurbished that cool '99 Jeep to auction off on Oct. 3rd. Thanks to the moms who cleverly lent their talents to creative designs for branding and soliciting community support.

Thanks to Fr. Dan and our Jesuit priests who celebrate liturgy, visit the sick and dying, counsel the suffering, support the school, manage growth and fundraising, and take time to be with us whenever they can.

We've all witnessed the value of meaningful work. Unemployment is one of the top three stressors that can occur in one's life. We give thanks for you entrusting your students to us at school, and we promise we'll work very hard on their behalf. We love our vocation as educators, and we'll keep trusting the Holy Spirit to guide us with your help.

Labor Day Blessings,
Ms. Kim Cavnar, Principal
