Summer savings

Aside from Christmas, many would agree that summertime is one of the most expensive times of the year for their family. With the kids out of school, not only are they eating you out of house and home, causing your grocery bill to soar, but they are also leaving every light and electronic device on in the house. Then, there's the family vacation and weekly activities that you may do with the kids just to get them out of the house and provide entertainment. If you put it down on paper, it all adds up to one hefty amount.

After all is said and done, there are many different ways you can reduce these costs this summer.

In your house for example, teach your children to conserve energy by turning things off when they leave a room. If they are not using it at the moment, don't turn it on.
Inspect for leaks and examine your caulk and weather stripping to make sure your cool air stays in your home and doesn't leak out through window and door cracks. As cool air leaks out, your unit will continue to run, oftentimes overworking it in an effort to maintain the set temperature. Keep your thermostat set to 78 degrees, allowing your unit to work less, thus saving you cooling costs on your energy bill. In regards to the grocery bill, we can't help you with the amount your kids consume, but we can help you out with coupons for the groceries. With summer rates going into effect this month and lasting through October, now is the time to put your conservation plan into action. As your usage increases, the need to supply more energy increases, especially when the weather is hotter. The higher rate schedule is designed to help cover the higher costs caused by this peak demand and the need to operate additional generating plants to meet these needs. We are proud to be ranked with the 14th lowest-cost for the summer in the state among 94 power providers. At the 1,000 kilowatt-hour (kWh) use mark, members paid just $107, while the state average was $119.65! Georgia Power customers paid more than the average cost at $128.99 for 1,000 kWh. Most members use around 1,000 kWh per month.

By taking action now and completing some of the energy saving tips available to you, you could see a difference in your bill.
