Beware of new scam
It has been reported that several local co-ops within the state are experiencing a scam affecting their members.
Members are receiving phone calls attempting to solicit immediate payment for overdue electric bills and threatening to cut off service if unpaid. Some of the calls direct members to an "800" number for payment, while others request the member pay with a specific "pre-paid" card that can be purchased locally (Visa, MasterCard, etc.).
If you receive a call from someone claiming to represent GreyStone Power who tries to force you to make a payment over the phone, please be aware this is a scam. GreyStone members always have the option to make a payment online through our web self-service system. If you feel the call is suspicious, hang up and call GreyStone directly. Do not give out any sensitive information. Please report any suspicious calls to your local law enforcement.

Self-service has grown
Since the debut of our self-service program over the past few years more and more members are finding out just how convenient managing their account can be within their busy schedule. With all of the different billing and payment options available, scheduling your payment and accessing your balance is as easy as 1-2-3!
"I've used GreyStone's website to view and pay my monthly bills for YEARS - and I love it!" shares GreyStone member Patricia McDonald of Austell. "I don't have to worry about where I laid the bill down in my house. I can simply go to the website, review my bill and make my payment. I can also review bills if I'm ever curious how the current bill compares to past ones. Then there's the benefit of paying wherever I am; like when I remember it while I'm at work. I know this sounds like an ad, but it is an honest endorsement! I wish all my bills were this easy to take care of!!"
To learn more about our self-service features, visit us online at greystonepower.com. You will need your GreyStone Power account number and the last four digits of your Social Security Number (SSN), or for your commercial accounts, your company's Employer Identification Number (EIN) in order to create your account.

Staying safe with portable generators
Your family's safety is your first priority: keeping them fed, clothed and protected. During winter weather storms, you also want to keep them warm and dry. Sometimes Mother Nature can throw a curve ball, resulting in trees falling across power lines. When this happens, outages can affect hundreds to thousands, leaving you in the dark waiting.
Portable electric generators provide a good source of power in times like this, but if improperly installed or operated, they can become deadly. We encourage you to do your homework prior to purchasing a generator and learn how to use it properly in order to keep your family safe. These tips could save you from carbon monoxide poisoning, electrical shock, fire injury and property damage.
Carbon monoxide poisoning is a huge threat. Always use your generator outdoors and never inside the home, garage, basement or any other enclosed area. It needs ventilation.
Electrical safety is another major concern. Plug your appliances directly into the generator and never into your household outlet. Only use heavy-duty, outdoor-rated extension cords that are free from cuts or tears, and make sure the plug has all three prongs. Generators should never be connected directly to your home's wiring without an appropriate transfer switch, which should be installed by a licensed electrician. Doing so could result in the backfeeding of energy along power lines, which could electrocute anyone coming into contact with them, including line workers making repairs to restore service.
