It's coming...
As spring has slowly crept in, summer is ready to burst our way. Predictions are calling for this year to be one of our hottest summers on record. If that's the case, stop and ask yourself, "Is my home ready to withstand the temperatures?"
There are hundreds of do-it-yourself energy efficiency tips that you can add to your 'honey-do' list which could help save money on your electric bill this summer.
Now is the time to plan and prepare. Summer rates will go into effect in June and last through October 2013. As a member-owner of GreyStone Power, you have earned the bragging rights to say your co-op is currently ranked with the 14th lowest-cost in the state among 95 power providers. At the 1,000 kilowatt-hour (kWh) use mark, members paid just $104.50, while the state average was $115.40! Georgia Power customers paid more than the average cost at $129.19 for 1,000 kWh. Most members use around 1,000 kWh per month.
Historically summer bills are a bit higher than winter because there's more usage. When the usage increases, the need to supply more energy increases, especially when the weather is hotter. The higher rate schedule is designed to help recover the higher costs caused by this peak demand and the need to operate additional generating plants to meet these needs. Think about it for a second; the kids are out of school and probably at home watching TV all day while having the lights on in every room. They have probably made about 100 trips to the refrigerator, opening and closing the door as they search for something to snack on. And because they are home all day, and it's hot outside, the air conditioning is running non-stop trying to keep the house cool. Sound familiar?
So, what better time than now to prepare! Start educating yourself, and your family, and put your conservation plan into action. Start your list today by visiting togetherwesave.com.

How much is peace of mind worth? Are you a worrier? Do creaks and squeaks in the middle of the night keep you awake? Have you ever thought how comforting it would be not to have to worry about someone breaking into your home without anyone knowing about it? Having a security system in place can provide that needed peace of mind.
As I sit and type this story to you, the police are currently at my house walking the grounds to ensure the safety of our home. I just received a call from an EMC Security dispatcher, notifying me that the alarm is going off at my house. Instead of being worried, I feel relieved to know that I will not go home in a couple of hours with my kids and potentially find the surprise of a break-in. I am also comforted to know that the employees at EMC Security are working together with the police to figure out what's going on and that they will notify me should there be an emergency that I need to come home to address. My husband and I feel more secure knowing that we have this added protection for our family. Should we have a true emergency, whether burglary, medical or fire, a dispatcher is just a touch-of-a-button away.
With 24-hour protection, you can leave your house or business knowing that it is well monitored by the latest cutting edge security company, owned by GreyStone Power and Walton and Jackson EMCs! There are no hidden costs or long term contracts. One of the great things about this company is the versatility of products offered. Not only can you sign up for the home alarm system, whether wired or wireless, but they also offer business security solutions, video surveillance, medical alert pendants and home technology systems, including entertainment and central vacuum systems.
To learn more about EMC Security, visit emcsecurity.com or call 770-963-0305.
