Building Community - Transforming Lives
ISSUE: # 75
DECEMBER 2014
FROM THE DIRECTOR, CARRIE TURNER
Greetings! I hope you had a joyful, peaceful Thanksgiving.  Now that the hectic holiday season is almost upon us with its emphasis on eating, drinking and making merry, I have been checking out our new cookbooks and the food magazines on Zinio for inspiration.  Now I just need to find the time to put what I've read into practice!

The response to our first Local Author Festival was great.  Many thanks to all the participants and staff who contributed to its success.  We plan to have additional events like this on a regular basis.  If you would like to be placed on our author email list for notice of upcoming programs, classes or events of interest, please send me a message.  Scroll down to see photos of this event.

I recently read an inspiring article by Caitlin Moran, a British author and journalist, in support of public libraries.  As you may know, libraries are facing extremely difficult times right now in the UK (as are we in the US).  I was moved by her statement that
"a library in the middle of a community is a cross between an emergency exit, a life raft and a festival. They are cathedrals of the mind; hospitals of the soul; theme parks of the imagination. On a cold, rainy island, they are the only sheltered public spaces where you are not a consumer, but a citizen, instead"[my emphasis].  Residents of Cheltenham Township contribute about $40 per person per year through their property taxes to support CTLS. That's less than a latte a month.  Visit us often in person and online to maximize your return on investment!

CTLS is still accepting applications for the at-large vacancy on the library board.  Details about the position are available on our website.

See you at the library (and on Facebook)!
