Building Community - Transforming Lives
ISSUE: # 74
 NOVEMBER 2014
FROM THE DIRECTOR, CARRIE TURNER

Greetings! We have another event-filled month in store for you - especially if you are a would-be or published author.  During November we will host a number of author events culminating in our first Local Author Festival.  The author programs scheduled for our branches are outstanding.  Please see our post below for more details and turn out to support creative writing in our community.

It takes an extra dose of patience to make it to
the Elkins Park branch right now while Church Road is under construction but we are open for business as usual.  On Election Day (November 4), however, EP will be closed to accommodate voters.  All branches will be closed on November 11th for our annual Staff Development Day training so our staff can learn about new technologies and library best practices.  We have great people working in our libraries.  They are caring, intelligent and creative.  And some have a dramatic flair as evidenced by the Scooby Doo party at the Elkins Park branch.

CTLS is governed by a 7 member Library Board appointed by the Cheltenham Township Commissioners.  There is currently a vacancy for an at-large member on the Board.  If you would like to learn more about serving in this capacity, please checkout the job description and application.  It is a wonderful way to show your support for the library and to give back to your community.

Finally, as Thanksgiving approaches, I would like to thank the many library supporters who contribute to our annual appeal every year, who remember us with a legacy, who volunteer to help out in our libraries and who join the Friends of the Library.  We couldn't do it without you!

See you at the library (and on Facebook)!

Carrie Turner

Director

What I am currently reading:  The Hawley Book of the Dead by Chrysler Szarlan.

What I am currently listening to:  The Rosie Project, written by Graeme C. Simsion,  read by Dan O'Grady.
