Building Community - Transforming Lives
ISSUE: # 55
 APRIL 2013
FROM THE DIRECTOR, CARRIE TURNER
2011 head For the winter-weary, April holds the promise of spring-like weather and a return to outdoor activities.  April also heralds National Library Week, National Library Workers Day, National Poetry Month (including Poem in Your Pocket Day), Earth Day and a host of community events.  We have several programs in support of these observances including a number of gardening lectures throughout the month.  We will also be at the Wellness Fair that is part of the Run for Jake event promoting our consumer health and wellness collections and resources.  Please stop by and say hello.

CTLS has four Friends of the Library groups who raise funds through book and bake sales and host programs and other activities.  Together our Friends contributed approximately $120,000 to the library in 2012!  If you would like to receive information from our Friends via email, please share your address with them by clicking on one or all of the links below.  They will not share it with anyone else.

Look for the eSequels icon on our homepage.  This is a resource for readers that lists the books in any given series in order.  The database is also searchable by author, book title, character, location, subject and keyword.  Forthcoming titles in popular series are also listed here as well as topical booklists and articles on series fiction.  Special series booklists include "Cat Mystery", Norwegian Mystery", "Women Clerical Sleuths", etc.  We hope this new database will be helpful to the readers of series fiction in our community.

We are offering a program on Internet Safety later this month.  This is a topic of great importance to everyone who goes online to connect to friends and family, to shop, to participate in social media, etc.  To sign up for our class, email us or call 215-885-0457.  In the meantime, EveryoneOn has valuable information to keep you, your family and your computer safe.

Finally, I am happy to report that the Library Board has passed a balanced budget that maintains hours and services at their current levels.  This is due in large part to the contributions made by residents and Friends in our community and to the level of support we receive from local government.  Thank you!

See you at the library!

Ars Poetica by Archibald MacLeish
A poem should be palpable and mute
As a globed fruit,

Dumb
As old medallions to the thumb,

Silent as the sleeve-worn stone
Of casement ledges where the moss has grown-

A poem should be wordless
As the flight of birds.
*
A poem should be motionless in time
As the moon climbs,

Leaving, as the moon releases
Twig by twig the night-entangled trees,

Leaving, as the moon behind the winter leaves,
Memory by memory the mind-

A poem should be motionless in time
As the moon climbs.
*
A poem should be equal to:
Not true.

For all the history of grief
An empty doorway and a maple leaf.

For love
The leaning grasses and two lights above the sea-

A poem should not mean
But be.
