Building Community - Transforming Lives
|
ISSUE: # 53
| FEBRUARY 2013
| |
| FROM THE DIRECTOR, CARRIE TURNER |
| Greetings! Many thanks to the community members and Friends of the Library who donated to CTLS in 2012. Your contributions over the past three years have offset losses in government revenue and have helped us avoid cuts in hours and services. We are fortunate to serve a community that is so generous and supportive. On February 15, all CTLS branches will be hosting a Community Appreciation Day. Drop by and enjoy some light refreshments and appreciation @ your library.
Our branches have an exciting line-up of programs for all ages celebrating Black History Month. These are listed below. For information on Township-wide activities, checkout the listings on their website.
FYI - February is also Library Lovers' Month. There are many ways to 'love' your library besides providing financial support (although that is much appreciated). If the library is important to you and your family, share that information with elected officials and spread the word to your neighbors that the library has something for everyone.
Readers might enjoy browsing through the popular book review publication, Book Page, which is distributed free through our branches and which also has a website where you can find read-alikes and information about new releases.
Finally, before last year, I had always failed at my attempts to bake a great loaf of bread at home. Then a co-worker introduced me to the now-famous No-Knead method pioneered by Jim Lahey of the Sullivan Bakery in New York City. Lahey's technique was chronicled in an article by Mark Bittman in the New York Times and in his book My Bread. If you have ever yearned to make delicious homemade bread, this technique makes it possible for you to astonish your friends and family. The library has a number of interesting and informative books for the home bread baker including: Kneadlessly Simple by Nancy Baggett and Flour, Water, Salt, Yeast by Ken Forkish.
See you at the library!
