Building Community - Transforming Lives
|
| FROM THE DIRECTOR, CARRIE TURNER |
| Greetings! I hope you enjoyed good food and fellowship over the holiday season. We expect many people received e-readers or tablets as gifts. If you need help using them to download free e-books and audiobooks from the library, we can help. Just give us a call and we will make an appointment or let you know when a class is being held.
It seems that winter has finally arrived this week. Time to make soup, hibernate with a good book or movie (from the library of course) and watch the days get progressively longer. If the weather is frightful, please call ahead to make sure we are open for business. We hate to close the library for any reason but sometimes it is unavoidable.
Beginning in January, access to the wi-fi in each of our branches will require a library barcode number and password. This change is being made in order to measure use and plan for the future. The staff has observed more and more visitors using their own devices in the library but we do not have any solid statistics. We want to insure that our bandwidth is adequate and that the service is efficient. If you use our wireless, we encourage you to give us feedback on how it works for you.
We are very gratified by the number of people who responded to our request for donations in the December newsletter. We raised over $1,000! Cheltenham is indeed a generous, caring community. There is still time to make a much-appreciated year-end gift in support of library services and collections. With flat funding at the state and local levels, we anticipate a budget shortfall next year that threatens library programs. If you are in a position to donate, your contribution is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Many thanks to the donors who have already given via PayPal or by check.
Finally, we wish everyone in our community a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. Make a resolution to use the library more often!
See you at the library!
Carrie Turner
