The congregational council of Shepherd of the Valley, upon recommendation of the school board, has made the difficult decision that we will not offer elementary school classes after the conclusion of the current academic year. (Preschool classes are not affected by this decision and will continue to operate according to the high standards we have established, and with the same excellent director, teachers and staff that are now so ably guiding and nurturing the children.) Please click here to read the letter that was sent to elementary school parents. We will of course set aside a time in the future to honor and thank the excellent principal, teachers, and staff who are still faithfully educating and guiding children in the elementary school. We are grateful for those--all staff, parents, students, church members and leaders--who over the years have worked hard to provide the wonderful education and caring Christian community that have been hallmarks of our elementary school.

Faith in Action
Dear Fellow SOV Congregants,
Inspired by Pastor Bryan's sermon at service two Sundays ago, I took a box of the homeless care packages made by our congregants during Lent.
My intention was to offer the packages to my yoga class. After class the following day, I explained to my students (most of which do not attend SOV), the story behind the packages and told them to feel free to take a package or two. I smiled when, within minutes, the box was emptied. Two days later I received a message from one of my students. She said she had just given the care package to a homeless man she saw at the post office who was sitting on the ground with a cardboard sign. She asked him his name then chatted for awhile with him. She then gave him the care package. He smiled and thanked her saying he could really use the items in the package.
My student's message said further, "It put a smile on my face to see him smile and he was very appreciative. Thanks so much for giving us those packages and for helping me help someone else."
"We at SOV are indeed answering Jesus's call to feed his sheep. I am so very proud to be a member of our congregation."
-Julie Rowland

Did you know...
The state of Arizona, and now, as of January 1, 2016, California offer what are called beneficiary deeds. You can have title to real estate, including your home, in one of these TOD (transfer on death) deeds. By using one of these types of deed, you can now avoid probate of certain real estate, without needing a trust. However, there are many other reasons for having a trust.
To learn more, contact your state or county hall of records, for more information. You may also contact me about how you can use this type of deed for charitable gift planning as well as other methods for leaving property as a gift.
