Youth Sunday This Week and Installation of Youth Minister Caitlin Arndt
We mark the end of the Epiphany season with the Transfiguration of our Lord this Sunday. Youth will help lead the service. Also, Caitlin Arndt will be installed as our Youth Minister. She has been serving faithfully in this position since the fall, and we recently realized we have not marked this with a Sunday morning recognition! Youth are invited to help lead worship and to be here for this significant event. Also this week we will have the opportunity to support a special offering for Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary, one of our ministry partners. |

Lenten Experience . . .
Lenten experience kicks off with a pre-Lent pancake supper on Shrove Tuesday, February 9 at 5:30 p.m.
The Lent season begins with
Ash Wednesday, February 10 at 7:00 p.m.
Soup and Service begins on Wednesday, February 17 with a simple meal and on-site service projects for all ages. We will start at 5:30 p.m. and conclude from
7:00-7:15 p.m.with a prayer and short reflection. These will continue each Wednesday through March 16.
As part of our Lenten experience this year, we will be working on several service projects. These include making fleece blankets for the homeless and young children as well as care packs for the homeless. We would appreciate any donations of fleece, either new or gently used (& clean) and gift cards for JoAnn/Michaels so we can purchase additional fleece and supplies.
We could also use items to go into homeless care packs: $5 fast food gift cards, snack foods, bottled water, etc. We could also use grocery/dollar store gift cards to purchase these items.
Also, devotional booklets, Faithful Facts for Lent, are available in the office and narthex. These booklets provide a brief daily reading for every day in Lent, each focusing on a different biblical character from the Passion story. Be sure to pick up a copy.

Save the Date - Spring Gala & Silent Auction
On Saturday, March 5, 2016, Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran School will hold its annual Silent Auction.
This event is our most important event of the year, as it not only provides a terrific social event for our families, but also provides significant funding to special projects.
Families are requested to solicit donations from businesses they patronize. All donations need to be accompanied by the donation form. Donations are due no later than Friday, February 19, 2016, or they will not be able to be used in the event.
Attached are the Request Letter and Donation Form for our Annual Silent Auction. Please take the letter to your favorite restaurant, play place, store, salon, massage person, etc. and request a donation to be used at our event. We are a 501(c)(3), and donations are tax deductible. The more variety of items we have, the better the event will be.
Thanks in advance for your help!

School Family Referrals As you may have heard, Pinecrest Schools will be closing all five of their campuses at the end of this school year. Do you know any families that attend Pinecrest Schools?
At Shepherd, we know that the best way to spread the word about our school is through the recommendations of our church members and school parents to family, friends, and neighbors. Please share your SOV experience with others, especially any Pinecrest families that could benefit from being part of the Shepherd family.
Shepherd is pleased to accept referrals at any time. With our open enrollment policy, students can be admitted throughout the school year.
If you know of any families looking for options for their children, please let us know . Thank you in advance.
