Lutheran Social Services Food Drive

Thanksgiving
Lutheran Social Services (LSS) needs paper and/or plastic bags to fill with food distributed to the needy. Any that you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

LSS is also seeking donations for Thanksgiving food distribution. The LSS office will be ordering food items during the first week of November.

You can help in one of 2 ways:

1. Turkey vouchers are available for purchase beginning November 1.
2. You may also choose to donate food items. A list of requested items in addition to the boxes will be handed out.

Please see Diane Jorgensen in the Narthex after church on the following Sunday's. October 25, November 1, and November 8.

Christmas
As in past, LSS will distribute Christmas gifts to their client families. Donations are being accepted for unwrapped gifts for children ages 2-12. Please bring them in no later than Sunday, November 30.

Thank you for your kindness and support of the mission of LSS. Your generosity is what allows LSS to serve our most vulnerable.

30 Things We Love About Pastor Bryan

He followed God's call and became our Pastor.
He is a great Christian role model for our children.
He loves to share stories about his Mom and Dad and sisters.
He loves to share funny stories about his children.....oops, I mean, his cats (and I love the names he has chosen for them)!
He is always willing to help out with even the most horrible task, from unclogging a toilet to doing the dishes.
He is so smart he can give you advice on just about anything!
He is a team player
He loves music
That he will act silly for the kids, like by dressing up for the school's annual Halloween skit.
He is an amazing cook...the best ever
His quick, infectious laugh
His winning, encouraging sense of humor
The bleached-blonde years......
He is a bit of a tech-head
He spreads God's love and joy around
When appropriate, he chooses to see life's challenges in a light-hearted, humorous way.
I love joking around with him!
His thought-provoking sermons
His Weekly Word studies and all the in-depth Bible Studies he has led over the years...his Biblical knowledge is vast!
His kindness
His intellect and intelligence (like when I have to look up in the dictionary several words he says....if I ask him what they mean he will happily explain their definition - with a few more words I have never heard!)
He shares fresh ideas about faith in his sermons
He is a Giants fan
He has been there for our important life moments - baptisms, confirmations, marriages, funerals, and teaching our children
Children perceive him first as a friend, not necessarily an authority figure.
During difficult times, he knows exactly the right words to say to bring comfort.
He is humble
He is approachable
The many thought-provoking things he has said, including "we are to love God more than life itself."
He loves Disneyland

The History of Stephen Ministries

On November 3, 1975, Dr. Haugk and his wife Joan, a registered nurse and clinical social worker, founded the Stephen Ministries organization.
Today, more than 12,000 congregations and other organizations have enrolled in the Stephen Series. They represent more than 170 Christian denominations and come from all 50 United States, 10 Canadian provinces, and 27 other countries. More than 70,000 pastors, other staff, and lay leaders have been trained as Stephen Leaders. They, in turn, have trained more than 600,000 laypersons as Stephen Ministers.
