A Message from Our School Board
| 
On behalf of the School Board, welcome to the 2015-2016 School Year. The board meets once a month to review and set programs and policy and to ensure there is proper administration of the school. Meetings are on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. and are open to everyone.
There are seven voting members on the School Board. According to our bylaws, a majority shall be members of the congregation, a majority shall have children enrolled in the school, at least one shall have children in the school but not be a member of the congregation and the PTF Chairperson shall be a member.
Currently our voting members are:
Sandi Engh - Chairperson (church member)
Craig Kvinsland - Treasurer (parent)
Season Eng - Secretary (parent)
Lisa Lee - PTF President (parent)
Mike Benner - Scrip Rep (church member)
Katie Riordin - Member-at-Large (church member, parent)
James Helgager - Member-at-Large (church member)
Non-voting advisory members consist of: school principal, teacher rep, Director of Finance & Administration and Senior Pastor.

This event is for parents and guardians (no childcare provided).
Back-to-School Sunday (Preschool - 6th)
Sunday, September 13
Children are invited to Sunday School at 9 a.m. in Founders Hall. Children join their parents in worship at 9:30 a.m. Younger children may remain in Sunday Clubhouse.
Back-to-School Night (TK - 6th)
Thursday, September 17 at 7:00 p.m. This event is for parents and guardians (no childcare provided). Fellowship and General Meeting
Saturday, September 26 at 6:30 p.m.

Preschool News
| 
Our Preschool has 2 spaces available for Tuesday and Thursday classes in the Sunshine Room (ages 3.5-5). Please tell your friends and spread the news.
New Class Coming Soon
We are planning to introduce a new class for our little ones beginning in November. This class will create more openings for preschool children of all ages. We will have more information in the coming weeks.

Back to School Fellowship & General Meeting

Please Join us for "Fellowship Under the Stars" to kick off the new school year with dinner and drinks!
This is a fellowship event and general meeting for parents only. Please RSVP to the Evite by September 20.
When: Saturday, September 26 at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Calderon Residence
This is a great opportunity to mingle with parents and faculty and learn more about our upcoming school year. Hope to see you there!

Learn to Play Piano!

The SOV After-School Enrichment Program is happy to announce the opportunity for our students to take piano lessons with piano instructor Liz Joy. Mrs. Joy has been teaching piano through our enrichment program for 12 years and has been teaching piano professionally for 38 years! Mrs. Joy teaches with a strong emphasis on theory and technique to enable her students to be proficient in both classical and contemporary music. She endeavors to equip each student with solid knowledge in the mechanics of music that will serve as a foundation for their talent and creativity whether or not they decide to pursue music at a professional level.
Mrs. Joy has openings for SOVLS students who would like to start now with after-school lessons on campus*.

*Pending sufficient enrollment. Private lessons will be offered during the school year on Mondays from 3pm-6pm in the music room. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Animal Encounters Enrichment After School

Let's Enrich Our Kids Afterschool!
Love Animals? Well then ANIMAL ENCOUNTERS is the enrichment after school class for your child! SOV will kick off its afterschool enrichment classes this year with its first 8 week session that meets at SOV for one hour after school on Mondays at 3 pm. ANIMAL ENCOUNTERS is a hands-on class with live, kid friendly animals. One of the many featured animals this fall is a baby CAMEL, Mr. Herbert Humphrey!
See and learn how he is bottle fed every three hours, and enjoy him before he gets over 1,000 lbs! Look for the announcement sign up sheet in your child's folder next week.
Space is limited at $105 per child for the 8 week session. Class begins on Monday, September 28th, and is for grades K-6th.

Volunteers Needed!
|
 We have several volunteer positions open to help our school. Not only would you be helping our students and staff, you'll gain those valuable volunteer hours needed for the end of school year.
Room Parent - If you are interested in being room parent for your child's classroom, please contact Mrs. Katie Riordan.
Scrip Volunteers - We need volunteers to sell Scrip one day a week. This can be done in the mornings (8:15 a.m. - 8:45 a.m.) or after school (2:45 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.) for a total of 1 hour per week.
If you can help in anyway, please let our office know. Thanks!

Raising the Flag
|   The 5th & 6th grade students gathered in the quad to learn how to properly raise and lower the flag each day. Students showed great respect for our country and will gratefully look on our country's flag through out this school year.
