Seminarian Julie Kelly Completes CPE
|
Julie Kelly receives her
CPE Certificate from
Rev. Rombhoru Brinkmann
|
All seminary students seeking certification for ministry in the ELCA are required to take a full unit of Clinical Pastoral Education--CPE. This is a full-time ten-week program (minimum of 400 hours). During CPE, students get hands-on experience in pastoral care, in clinical settings such as hospitals, prisons, mental health facilities or other institutional settings. The purpose of this training is not only that students gain experience as pastoral care givers, but also that they grow in understanding their own identities as pastors and caregivers. The process includes supervision by an experienced mentor, peer reviews from others in the program, and rigorous reflection of one's own self-understanding as a pastor. Along the way students complete many visits, reviews of visits, readings, exercises and written reports. Julie Kelly recently successfully completed her CPE training through the St. Camillus Urban Interfaith CPE Program, which is affiliated with LA County/USC Medical Center.
Congratulations, Julie!

The Gift That Gives Back
When you make a gift to your church, you don't expect to receive anything in return. However, when you set up a Charitable Gift Annuity through the ELCA Foundation, you receive favorable income from that gift for the rest of your life. The amount of income you receive is based on your age. The older you are, the more you receive. An individual gift annuity begins at 4.4% at age 60, and goes to 9% at age 90. A portion of the income you receive is tax free. You also receive a tax deduction at the time you set up the gift. Upon your death, the remainder of that gift then goes to the Lutheran entity of your choice. A minimum of $10,000 is needed to set up a charitable gift annuity. For further information, contact our congregation's gift planner,
Greg Shepherd at: 909-910-6823 or by email.
