Thank you from Ministry Partners

Shepherd of the Valley supports several ministry partners with gifts, as part of our regular benevolence giving. Each week in this new year we will highlight a year-end thank-you we have received from one of our partners.

From Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary:

The challenge for pastors and congregations in the present and future (and past, for that matter) is how to remain rooted in the beautiful traditions and pillars of our Lutheran Christian faith while also being responsive to our present contexts. ... So our students are learning about understanding the Bible, correlating faith and life, preaching the gospel, leading sound worship, caring for people, and of course, seeking justice, loving kindness and walking humbly before God. Tall order.

That's why your support is so precious. It undergirds the important holy work that continues on campus and associated contextual education sites.

God's blessings,

Rev. Brian Stein-Webber

Re-Gifting

Did you receive a gift for Christmas that you did not need? Did you re-gift it to someone else? Re-gifting, once frowned upon, has become an acceptable practice in recent years.

Re-gifting has always been acceptable to God. When blessed by God with more gifts than we need, He asks us to share those gifts with others and especially those in need.

After a lifetime of accumulating assets, we may have more assets than our loved ones need. If you have been blessed in this way, you have an opportunity to joyfully re-gift some of those assets to the continued work of your Lord and Savior here on earth.

We call this type of re-gifting, "planned giving". With the help of our ELCA Regional Gift Planner, Greg Shepherd, you will be shown ways that you can re-gift to the church and other charities without reducing your gifts to your loved ones. You will also learn ways to reduce taxable estate assets, and at the same time, be able to provide for ministries for which you have a passion. Create your legacy! To learn more, contact Greg Shepherd.
