Called ... Challenged ... Sent
These three words will be the focus of our annual Fall Stewardship Program. Beginning on Sunday, November 2, and continuing for three weeks, we will reflect on these themes in worship and study. A special study will be offered after worship each Sunday, from 10:45 - 11:30 a.m. in Founders Hall.
The weekly themes:
November 2 - Called to Follow
The account of the miraculous catch of fish in Luke 5:1-11 reminds us that when Jesus calls us to follow him, he very often call us to do so "in deep waters" - in those turbulent places of our lives and in our hearts that God can nonetheless use as places of blessing and new beginnings.
November 9 - Challenged to Grow
We remember the women who supported Jesus out of their own resources as well as the one who anointed him. The reading in Luke 7:36-8:3 gives examples to us of followers of Jesus who grew in their understanding of and response to God's grace and forgiveness.
November 16 - Sent to Serve
We sit at the table with Jesus and his disciples in the upper room, hearing our Lord's call to humble service. Luke 22:24-27, though brief, leads us to broad insights about the way in which responding and growing as followers of Jesus shapes our attitude to those around us, as well as our commitment to all those to whom we bear witness of the gospel of Jesus.
God calls us, challenges us and sends us. We respond, grow and serve. Plan on picking up a "Called ... Challenged ... Sent" packet on Sunday, November 2, and remain for the time of fellowship and study afterward!
(Note: For the three weeks of this program, Weekly Word groups may meet as usual to reflect on the provided guide, or may choose to participate in the after-worship event instead.)
