CPR and First Aid Training |
SOV staff members just finished another training in CPR and first aid, as part of our commitment to provide a safe campus. The six-hour training is repeated every two years, with half the staff involved in alternating years.
CPR training includes practice with AED devices - Automatic External Defibrillators. Now widely seen in places of public gathering, they are computer-controlled machines which can assist in correcting a faulty heart rhythm. Use of these devices substantially improves survival rates, since the treatment can be given far sooner than paramedics can arrive at the scene.
Currently SOV does not have an AED device on campus. The unit is a one-time purchase, with minor maintenance costs (for batteries and sensor pads, which have a shelf life if not used). They cost about $1,300. Anyone interested in helping SOV acquire this potentially life-saving device, please speak to Jan Garris or Pastor Bryan.
