First Aid, CPR and AED Training SOV staff members are trained in CPR and first aid, as part of our commitment to provide a safe campus. The six-hour training is repeated every two years, with half the staff involved in alternating years.
CPR training includes practice with AED devices - Automatic External Defibrillators. Now widely seen in places of public gathering, they are computer-controlled machines which can assist in correcting a faulty heart rhythm. Use of these devices substantially improves survival rates, since the treatment can be given far sooner than paramedics can arrive at the scene.
Currently SOV does not have an AED device on campus. The unit is a one-time purchase, with minor maintenance costs (for batteries and sensor pads, which have a shelf life if not used). They cost about $1,300. Anyone interested in helping SOV acquire this potentially life-saving device, please speak to Jan Garris or Pastor Bryan.

Appreciated Stocks for Gift Annuity
With the run up in stocks over the last year, many individuals are faced with the decision to sell the stocks and capture the gains, but face a significant capital
gains tax.
An alternative to selling is to transfer the stocks into a charitable gift annuity and receive a favorable lifetime payout, and at the same time, avoid capital gains. Payout rates from charitable gift annuities are based on age. The older you are, the higher the payout. You will also receive a charitable tax deduction that you could use to convert some of your traditional IRAs to Roth IRAs. Whatever is left in the charitable gift annuity at the end of your life would go to benefit your choice of charities.
To find out more, contact our congregation's gift planner, email Greg Shepherd or call him: 909.910.6823.
