Foundation Announces Gifts
Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Foundation has announced gifts it has recently made. The Foundation exists to support the ministries of the congregation and the school, as a witness to Christ in the world and church at large. It is supported by donations, often from wills, trusts, or other financial instruments. These donations are invested, and gifts for ministry are made from the interest earned on the principal held in the Foundation.
We are pleased to share with you some of the gifts we have distributed from these Foundation funds:
$350 Lou Stewart Youth Fund--
Camperships for LRCC Day Camp at SOV
$1000 Franich Memorial Scholarship Fund-- SOV School Scholarships
$1000 Mission Outreach Fund--
Lutheran Social Services, to help in rebuilding
the Van Nuys location after the recent fire.
The Foundation encourages everyone to remember the Foundation in their estate planning, so that these funds and the ministries they support may grow and continue to be a blessing for years to come.

Summertime Review
When is the best time to review your estate plan?
Many like to do it in January in response to a New Year's resolution. However, summertime can be an even better time as we reflect on past summers spent with family, and how we now want to honor them as we consider what our legacy will be. Whatever time of year you choose, it is important to review your estate plans every five to ten years, or sooner, if there have been major changes in your family situations or estate tax laws.
For information on resources available for your review, or for other questions you may have regarding estate gift planning, please contact our congregation's gift planner, Greg Shepherd: 909-910-6823 or email gregory.shepherd@elca.org

Stephen Minister
My name is Carol Guillebeaux and I'm a Stephen Minister.
My late husband Gil and I joined SOV about 15 years ago. Gil was disabled. His ability to get around became more limited with the passage of time and he was not able to get out much. Being homebound did not come easily for Gil, especially because he loved being around people. When Julee Rich introduced Stephen Ministry and its caregiving ministry to our church, I saw it as something that would have been perfect for Gil and others like him, so I wanted very much to be part of it.
Stephen Ministry has been a blessing to me and, I believe, to everyone it touches.

Operation Gratitude will hold weekend assembly days on Saturday, August 23rd and Saturday, September 20th. We are trying to get a group together to go over to the armory and volunteer from 9am to noon and then go out to lunch. We can meet at the Church and go over in carpools. Please consider joining us for service and fellowship.
Please contact Cindy Brown if you are interested @ cjbrownjr4@gmail.com. If you cannot make it but want to help, please consider writing letters to our deployed troops/wounded warriors/veterans and get them to Cindy.

Lutheran Social Service Office, Avanti
Below is a great article on our LSS office in
Pasadena, called Avanti. This is a program for developmentally disabled adults.
LSS writes:
We are using an organization called Laborers for Christ to do some extensive building maintenance on our facility there. We funded it with a loan from Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF). Should any of you have some free time and would like to help out with this project - Laborers for Christ are looking for some more volunteers for our project.
Laborers Needed
Ongoing Laborers For Christ projects in need of additional team members for Lutheran Social Services of Southern California Community Care Center, Pasadena, California (read this story about the ministry and its mission). Ron Johnson is the project manager. The projected completion date is August 1.
