Meet our Stephen Ministers
Judy Vanderbok Hello. You may have seen me in the choir loft. Recently I have found a new way to serve the church--as a Stephen Minister. I have trained and joined the group because, like them, I like to interact with people, sharing joys and concerns. I believe that God draws us towards others so that we can care for each other.
Bill and I joined Shepherd of the Valley in 2002. We have enjoyed getting to know members of the congregation. On special occasions our son and daughter will join us with the five grandchildren. It is a blessing to become part of the congregation.

LSS Update on Van Nuys Fire
Greetings friends and supporters of LSS, We wanted to give you an update on the Van Nuys Community Care Center, which has been closed since May 20th due to an electrical fire at the facility. We are grateful to report that no staff or clients were injured during the fire, which thankfully occurred in the middle of the night when the facility was unoccupied. Unfortunately at this point in time we cannot accept additional food or clothing donations at the Van Nuys facility until our operation is back in full service - which is estimated to take up to 90 days.
We are most thankful for our Community Partners for assisting our clients during this unexpected disaster.
It is still too early to finalize any official investigative reports we can rely on to pin down our losses. Therefore, our initial estimate of potential loss remains the same, $75,000, which we hope is a worst case scenario. However, we are hopeful. Since that initial communiqué, we are learning our host church's insurance may cover interior and exterior repairs, but again, we have no assurance of this yet. If this blessing of insurance comes through, it should lower our estimated original projections. However, we still have hurdles before us: Van Nuys operations projected to be displaced for about 90 days and the attendant needs that go with re-establishing an operational office and some inventory replacement. We still do not have assurance all data on our computers is safe. If you would still like to make a monetary contribution, please send checks for our Van Nuys programs, in care of the LSS Foundation 70 S. Lake Avenue Pasadena, CA 91101, or visit our website to make an online contribution.

Photo Directory
Church council is putting together a photo directory/roster of our membership. We hope this will help us get to know each other better and become closer as a church family.
We will be taking snapshots of everyone after regular services on each Sunday in June. If you have vacation plans, please be sure to attend at least one Sunday in June and be sure you have your photo taken. Photos will be made as individuals - so please don't worry if your entire family can't be together at one session. We will assemble the family associations in post-production. It will be a quick and easy process! Thanks!

The next book club meeting will be held on Sunday, June 22 at 10:45 in the Vaswig Library. They're meeting to discuss "The Borgias" by Sarah Dunant. Everyone is welcome.

LRCC Camps on Campus

June 23-27
TK through sixth grade
Counselors from LRCC's various camps are coming to SOV for a week to share the POWER of God's dynamic love and grace. POWER is an inherent characteristic of God, seen around and within our world. From God creating, through Christ's resurrecting, to the Holy Spirits dwelling in our lives, POWER is the active foundation for an abundant life. In Prayer, Others, Word, Equipping, and Responding, we will "become servants of this gospel by the gift of God's grace given to us through the working of God's power."
-Ephesians 3:7
Take a look at other programs on our summer calendar. Remember you only need to pay $30 to hold your spot. All of our programs are open to the community so please spread the word!
