Thanks from our Ministry Partners

Shepherd of the Valley supports a number of ministry programs each year through our budgeted benevolence program. These partners are working to further a mission and values that align with our church's.

We've been sharing the feedback we've recently received from a few of these amazing partners.

California Lutheran University

Dear Pastor Woken and Friends at Shepherd of the Valley,

New Year's greetings from the campus of CLU. The year begins with our excitement of partnership with Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. The Office of Church Relations and the Office of Seminary Relations will work together to represent a territory encompassing 11 synods and 13 states as we prepare leaders to serve the church.

In January, our students, faculty and staff provided support and direct service to assist with hurricane recovery relief in New Orleans. The projects included hands-on labor with rehabilitation and reconstruction. This service project has been a highlight for many students these past several years as they offer their gifts to that community.

Thank you for your partnership in ministry, your prayers and for your gift!

 Stephen Minister Training Update

Here is what our Stephen Ministers learned this week. Please pray for their continued growth and pray for those who might begin receiving care from them in coming weeks.

How to Make a First Caring Visit
As commissioning draws near, this class summarized everything our Stephen Ministers have learned so far and applied it to getting their first caring relationships off to a strong, healthy start.

Our Stephen Ministers are here to care for you! If you are in need of confidential, one-to-one Christian care -- or if you have a friend, neighbor, co-worker or relative who might benefit -- talk to one of our Stephen Leaders.

Our Stephen Minister trainees will be commissioned on Sunday, February 16.

Silent Auction Donations Needed

We are still in need of your unwanted items and
gift certificates. Please donate services from a business or offer your own talents! We are looking for these wonderful things for the Silent Auction and Bingo Night fundraiser on March 22. Please bring in your donations (or any gently used baskets) to the office marked, "Spring Gala" by March 5. Thank you!

Charitable Gift Annuities

Charitable Gift Annuities can increase your income and benefit the church at the same time. A CGA is a financial instrument usually provided through a foundation like the ELCA Foundation. The income payout is based on age and is paid to you for the rest of your life. The older you are, the higher the payout.

In addition, a portion of the payout is tax-free income. You also receive a charitable tax deduction immediately upon funding a CGA. The church benefits and so do you. For more information about Charitable Gift Annuities, contact our congregation's gift planner, Greg Shepherd, at 909-910-6823 or gregory.shepherd@elca.org.
