Principal Diane Haskell is Retiring

We are sad to announce that our school principal, Diane Haskell, will retire in June after 28 years of faithful service to our school. She is currently principal, grade 3-4 teacher and preschool director. In previous years she taught third grade and kindergarten.
Her above-and-beyond commitment to the school during recent years of reduced enrollment is an example of dedication to her students, as well as witness to our entire community of parents, staff and congregation. While we are certainly sorry to see her leave our staff, we are pleased that she has no plans to move, so she will still be involved in the community. We wish her God's greatest blessings on her well-earned retirement!
Mrs. Farrell, currently our grade 5-6 teacher, has enthusiastically accepted School Board's offer to serve as our new principal (as well as continuing to teach). She has been a teacher at SOV for 19 years and currently serves as Vice Principal. She has a B.A. from California Lutheran University, a California Multi-Subject Teaching Credential (also from CLU) and an M.A. in Teaching from Grand Canyon University.School Board also announced that next year we will continue the same configuration of grades for the 2014-15 academic year. This will allow us to carry on our tradition of academic excellence in a caring Christian community. School Board will now begin a search for a highly qualified teacher for our grade 3-4 and a preschool director. We will continue to keep you informed as we move ahead.

Stephen Minister Update
This week, our Stephen Ministers in training continued to enhance their caregiving skills. Please continue to keep them in your prayers.
Bringing the Caring Relationship to a Close Stephen Ministry relationships go on until the crisis is past, the need for care is diminished (not necessarily completely over), and the care receiver is able to cope on his or her own. In this session our Stephen Ministers explore how to know when it is time to bring closure to a caring relationship-and how to do so in a healthy way.
