3 REASONS TO RENE
If you have not yet renewed your Chamber membership for 2015, we encourage you to do so right away for 3 very good reasons:
  1. We will deliver tangible value to your business in return for your investment. We will provide direct services that help you grow your business, stay informed, and save money.
  2. Your prosperity is important to the community and the chamber, so we want the chance to serve you again. In a very real way, your success is our business.
  3. We want to demonstrate our appreciation to you for having faith in the Chamber organization. Any member renewing their membership prior to January 30 will receive their choice of:
    • Free Email Marketing Blast message sent to other chamber members to promote your business.
    • Free admission to an upcoming seminar on lean management principles.
    • 50% off the $100 price of an exhibit table at the annual "Spring Break" event.
    • Free copy of the book "Never Run Out of Cash: The 10 Cash Flow Rules You Can't Afford to Ignore" by business consultant Phillip Campbell.
Just let us know which incentive you would like to receive either when you submit your payment or by email if you already paid and we will follow up with details.

BUSINESS OUTLOOK SURVEY
Please take this very brief Business Outlook Survey.
  • The purpose of the survey is to collect information on where you think your business and our local economy are headed over the next six months. We also want to know what you believe will be your biggest business challenge.
  • Through knowing your expected results and current concerns we can be better prepared to help your business remain strong and stable.
  • The survey will continue through next week, after which we will share the results with you.

2015 IN REVIEW
Last year was very dynamic and rewarding for the Chamber organization, thanks to your support. In order to share information about our diverse activities in 2015, we have prepared a one page 2015 in Review report.  We hope you find the report informative and, again, we thank all members for helping make these accomplishments possible.

FREE WEBINAR ON SOCIAL MARKETING
The Chamber is hosting a free webinar about your newest member marketing benefit, Save Local Now (SLN) on January 26.
  • SLN is a social media and email marketing platform that Chamber members can use free as part of their membership.
  • It provides a suite of social marketing tools to simplify and coordinate your social posting and email communications with customers and prospects.
  • The experts from SLN will be leading the webinar from 8:30 am to 9:15 am on January 26.
  • You can participate in the session from the comfort of your home or office or join us at the Chamber office where a small group will gather in the conference room to watch and listen.
  • You will want to have access to a pc or mobile device so you can follow along and try out features as we go.
  • To register for the webinar go to http://www.meetme.so/takeovertraining.  Your registration will trigger an email which will provide all the details about how to participate.

ENTERPRISE ZONE PROGRAM
The Ohio Enterprise Zone Program is an economic development incentive tool that provides real property tax exemptions to businesses making investments in Ohio. Most all of the cities, villages and townships in Muskingum County are certified as Enterprise Zones. The program is designed to encourage economic investment and job creation by exempting a percentage of property taxes on new investment (not current or existing taxes) for a certain number of years. The term and percent of exemption are negotiated. The term and percent cannot exceed 75% for 10 years in municipalities or 60% for 10 years in townships without school board approval. Only certain targeted industries are eligible for the program - generally retail and service firms do not qualify. For more information contact Matt Abbott, Port Authority Executive Director, at matt@zmcport.com.

BAKING COMPETITION
Foodworks Alliance, the food products incubator based at MCBI, is hosting a baking competition on January 30. Professionals, amateurs, and youth are all invited to participate, and judging will take place in several categories. The grand prize is $400 in cash and prizes and various other category awards will be presented. For more information, including rules and an entry form, visit www.foodworksalliance.com/baking-competition.html.

OSHA PENALTIES INCREASE
"On November 2, 2015, President Barack Obama signed the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015. Obscured within the lengthy bill is a provision that not only mandates a current increase in the penalties for violations of standards established under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, but that also suggests penalties will be indexed to annual changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI). As a result, OSHA fines are likely to continue to go up each year for the foreseeable future." Continue reading at the Baker Hostetler website.
