The Community Bank Welcomes Newest Board Members
Zanesville, Ohio - Terry L. Goss, Chairman of the Board of The Community Bank, is pleased to announce the appointment of its two newest Board Members, Dr. Paul Brown and Ms. Monica Martinelli, effective January 1, 2015. The Board of Directors plays a critical role in policy decisions, authorizes rulemaking and oversees the Bank's operations. "These new additions to The Community Bank's Board show the importance we place on identifying and securing the best talent available to serve our shareholders, customers and communities. We are very fortunate to have diverse experienced business and community leaders that embody the spirit of community while bringing creativity, energy and new ideas for the development of community banking to the table. Dr. Paul Brown, who has over 30 years' experience in the administration of higher education programs, became Zane State College's fifth president in January of 2004. Under his leadership Zane State College has achieved several major milestones and received numerous recognitions. Among the most notable are:
- Zane State College received the prestigious Leah Meyer Austin Institutional Student Success Leadership Award in 2012 from Achieving the Dream.
- Zane State College was the only Achieving the Dream (ATD) college to be recognized as one of the three best ATD colleges in the nation three consecutive years for data-driven decision making and student retention.
- Zane State College was named a "Great College to Work For" in 2011 and 2012 by The Chronicle of Higher Education.
- Zane State College received the national MetLife award for student retention.
- Zane State College was ranked 9th in the nation among 2-year colleges by Washington Monthly Magazine (2007) based on graduation rates that are twice the national average and a national survey of student satisfaction of instruction and support.
- Zane State College was ranked 7th nationally for providing exceptional information technology support to faculty and students (Converge Magazine, 2008).
- Zane State College is one of 15 "best practices" colleges that received funding from MDC, Inc. to improve national completion rates through effective developmental education.
- Zane State College is one of 21 colleges recognized by Achieving the Dream as a "Leader" college to mentor other colleges throughout the nation.
During Dr. Brown's tenure, Zane State College has also demonstrated impressive outcomes:
- Over 70% growth in student enrollment.
- 90% of those students who have one full year of academic credit graduate.
- Job placement rates of 98% overall and 89% in primary area of study for Zane State College alumni within six months of graduation.
Other major accomplishments:
- Received the 2013 College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) inaugural Chief Executive HR Champion Award.
- Recognized as 2012 "Person of the Year" by Daily Jeffersonian for "vision, leadership, and dedication to improving the lives of people in southeastern Ohio."
- Developed institutional name change and branding campaign.
- Established first Institutional Research and Planning Department.
- Expanded the Foundation Office from quarter to full time.
- Transformed Public Relations into a comprehensive, award-winning Marketing Dept.
- Opened a state-of-the-art education center in Zanesville and in Cambridge
- Created the Leadership Development Institute for community college leaders
Community/State Leadership:
Dr. Brown earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Maryland, Master of Arts in Public Administration from the University of Northern Colorado, a Specialist in Education in Human Development Counseling from the George Peabody College, and a Doctor of Education in Human Development Counseling from Vanderbilt University.
Dr. Brown served our country as a major in the U.S. Air Force. Major Brown was vice president in charge of Academic Programming, Institutional Research and Accreditation at the Community College of the Air Force, the largest community college in the world, located in Montgomery, Alabama.
Dr. Brown also worked as an assistant professor and the assistant director of the Counseling Center at the United States Air Force Academy. During half of Dr. Brown's military career, he flew F-111 aircraft as a navigator serving in Thailand, United Kingdom, and the United States. Dr. Brown has served our community, State and the education industry:

Ms. Monica Martinelli, has over 20 years' experience in Marketing and Advertising. She is an experienced Media Buyer with a degree in Visual Communications. She was awarded the YMCA Women of Achievement Award in 2008. Ms. Martinelli is a strategic businessperson who became the sole owner of Y-Bridge Broadcasting, Inc. in 2012. With her experience and expertise, she has successfully grown the company to become the number one rated radio station in the area. In her role as Sales Manager and Owner, her focus is on the interaction and service of the client base and listenership in Muskingum, Licking and Perry Counties.
- Ms. Martinelli began her business career with the Downing Company as Director of Advertising for 15 La-Z-Boy stores in three states. She gained rich working knowledge of the business with development strategies and techniques to support the La-Z-Boy business plan.
- After eight years, she accepted a position in Advertising Sales for QFM and K95 Radio Station in Columbus, Ohio. Martinelli quickly identified the key to helping small businesses succeed through successful marketing campaigns. Armed with experience and exposure to the radio communications industry, Martinelli pursued her goal of becoming a small business owner.
- After purchasing 25% of WYBZ Radio in 2003, she focused her attention of the financial challenges of the business. Initially, she focused on developing and growing sales to stimulate cash flow. While balancing the debt, she invested in the purchase of new equipment and updated the business model. In time, Martinelli purchased additional shares of the company until she had purchased 100% of the business in 2012.
- In addition to Y-Bridge Broadcasting, Inc, Ms. Martinelli is the owner of M&M Rentals which leases billboards in Muskingum County. She is the owner of The Maysville Center, comprised of 6 rental units on Maysville Pike in Zanesville, Ohio as well as an apartment building in Licking County which she plays the role of apartment landlord.
