EYE SAFETY - The Safety Council meets on Wednesday, July 23 from 8 am to 9 am at Zanesville Country Club. About 80 attendees will hear a presentation on eye safety by Stephanie Koscher from Prevent Blindness Ohio. All Chamber members are welcome to attend. The fee is $10 per person. A buffet breakfast is served. Reservations may be made by emailing tpoorman@zmchamber.com.

 

RIBBON CUTTING - On Friday, July 25, Century National Bank will cut the ribbon on its east office located at Sunrise Center. The ribbon cutting is at 10 am and lunch is served from 11 am to 1 pm. All chamber members are invited to atten  d.

 

DEADLINE APPROACHING - You can save up to 4% on your worker's comp premiums but you have to enroll now in this savings program. The Chamber manages the Ohio BWC sponsored Safety Council program, and July is THE month to sign up.  In 2013 area employers saved a combined $45,000 by participating in Safety Council. The new year starts July 1 and you have to enroll by July 31 to be eligible for the rebate, so act now. For more information visit www.zmsafety.com. GOLF OUTING - The annual Chamber-Jaycees Golf Outing will be held on August 22 starting at 11:30 am at Jaycees Golf Club. Lunch will be served before the event. The cost per team is $220. Major sponsors are Century National Bank, The Forker Company/Northwestern Mutual, WHIZ Media Group, and Emeritus at North Hills. CUSTOMER SERVICE - A seminar titled "How You Can Create A Customer-Focused Culture In Your Organization" will be held on Friday, September 12 at the John McIntire Library in Zanesville from 9 am to 12 noon. The presenter will be Dave Hamilton, Senior Vice President of Signature Worldwide in Dublin, Ohio. Signature Worldwide delivers sales and customer service training, marketing, and mystery shopping services to both front line personnel and managers in service-based industries. ECONOMIC INDICATORS - Insperity reports that:

  • Total U.S. nonfarm employment grew in June for the 45th consecutive month as 288,000 jobs were created.
  • June's tally marked the fifth straight month that job gains have topped 200,000, the first such stretch since September 1999 to January 2000.
  • In June, the private sector expanded for the 52nd consecutive month, adding 262,000 jobs, while the government sector gained 26,000.
  • The number of planned job cuts by U.S. companies plunged in June by over 40 percent and by more than 20 percent from a year ago.
  • Consumer spending, up in 54 of the last 61 months, rebounded a modest 0.2 percent in May following a flattish April.
  • The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index jumped to a six-plus year high (highest since January 2008).

VISIT YOUR CONGRESSMAN - U.S. Congressman Bill Johnson, who represents part of

Muskingum County, will be attending an event at the Shelly Company's Marietta facility, and the company has extended an invitation to our chamber members to attend. On Thursday, August 14, Congressman Johnson is visiting the Shelly Company's new sand and gravel site at approximately 1 pm to help celebrate its grand opening. VISIT YOUR CONGRESSMAN, PART 2 - The staff of U.S. Congressman Pat Tiberi, who also represents a part of the county, will begin holding public office hours at the chamber offices twice each month.  Starting this Thursday, Dani Vandegriff, an aide to Congressman Tiberi, will be available from 10 am to 1 pm on the second and fourth Thursday of each month.  Feel free to stop in if you have a question or concern related to the federal government.  

 

LEARN TO ROW- You can learn about the sport of rowing at a special event hosted by the Midwest Rowing Association.  The association holds their championship each May at Dillon Lake and they are holding a hands-on lesson about rowing on August 2 from 4 to 6 pm  Anyone 7th grade or older is welcome to attend and there is no charge.  A cookout will take place after from 6 to 7 pm.  Come out and learn about rowing and support the association, which brings thousands of visitors to our community each year. WORKERS' COMP - You can cut your workers' comp costs by joining our group rating program. Group rating spreads the risk and saves employers as much as 50% on their premiums.
