Bragging Rights - Zanesville and Muskingum County are currently in the midst of roughly $500 million in investment in local businesses and community facilities. For example, Genesis Healthcare System is constructing a new $200 million medical center, and Muskingum University is investing $10 million in renovating its library building. But that's not all. Workplace Poverty -The Muskingum Valley Human Resource Management Association monthly meeting is this Wednesday, April 9, and the topic is " Poverty in the Workplace: Why It Should Matter To HR." The presenter is Rev. Jennifer Johnston Baker, an Adult Protection Investigator & Caseworker for the Muskingum County Adult & Children Protection Services. Ribbon Cutting - All Chamber members are invited to ribbon cuttings for new companies to help thank business owners for their investment and welcome them to the local business community. This Friday, April 11 at 11 am, Bayer Heritage Federal Credit Union, formerly known as Zane Trace Federal Credit Union, is celebrating its grand opening and ribbon cutting. The business is located at 1917 Ridge Avenue in Zanesville.
Utica Shale - The Ohio Energy Resource Alliance reports that, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Oil and Gas Resources Management's online statistics, ODNR has issued a total of 1,186 permits for drilling in the Utica shale in Ohio since December 2009. Also, a total of 780 Utica wells have been drilled since December 2009. 386 wells are currently in production. Carroll County is first in permits in Ohio with 390, Harrison County is second with 211 permits, and Columbiana County is third with 101.
Living Local - Chamber members are invited to participate in Muskingum Soil and Water Conservation District's "Living Local" workshop. The workshop will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at the Mission Oaks Volunteer Building, 1720 Euclid Avenue in Zanesville. The purpose of the workshop is to highlight local agricultural producers and associated business owners in Muskingum County and help citizens understand the importance of purchasing products locally. B usiness Matchmaker - The Ohio Business Matchmaker will take place April 22-23 in Dayton. This is a unique event designed to bring together suppliers with buyers from federal, state, local and prime contractors to fulfill their contracting needs and requirements. Buyers and suppliers will have the opportunity to meet for 10 minutes in one-on-one sessions to discuss billions of dollars' worth of upcoming opportunities.
