Dialogic Reading in action!
Watch this video to hear how Dialogic Reading pulls Kayden out of his shell.

Before Raising A Reader MA, Kayden's teacher said, "He has hardly said a word at school the entire year! He murmurs under his breath and often covers his mouth when speaking. He also tends to restrain himself from smiling or laughing."

Raising A Reader MA is making it possible for parents like Kayden's mother Pheap to master strategies for adding Dialogic Reading activities to their home reading routines, like asking "what" questions.  These reading activities that help open up children to the world of words and paves the way to academic success throughout a child's life.

Many families ask us "How can I use Dialogic Reading at home?"

We're now offering Dialogic Reading Tip Sheets on our website. Each tip sheet features one high-quality children's book, gives broad information about how the story lends itself to parent/child interaction, and shares sample questions you can ask your child when you read the story together. You can browse the sheets online, or download and print them so they can be stored with the corresponding story book.

Browse and download these tip sheets online today.  Stories featured include the classic Caps for Sale by Esphyr Slobodnika and  Shopping with Dad by Matt Harvey and Miriam Latimer. Bookmark this page because new titles will be added every month.

As a convenience, we've also made it possible for you to buy the books we feature in the tip sheets through our partnerships with Amazon.com and Barefoot Books.
Governor Patrick declared that November was Massachusetts Family Literacy Month. We and we celebrated with special events in Boston and across the Commonwealth.  But a member of our team believes Family Literacy should be celebrated all the time, not just once a year.

If given a choice between exploring the infinite possibilities of imagination through a good book, and playing with Mom's iPhone, we all know what most children would choose.

Book drive Book Drives
Special thanks to Deloitte's Back Bay offices, Pan Communications and the Tufts University Health Science Center Campus Book Store for hosting book drives for Raising A Reader MA this month.

While our core program model promotes book sharing, we find that once families get hooked on reading they are eager to have books for their home libraries. The books we collect through community and corporate book drives are distributed to families through Raising A Reader MA workshops and other community activities.

Hop onto our website to learn more about hosting a book drive in your office, school or neighborhood.

About Raising A Reader MA
Raising A Reader MA is closing the academic achievement gap by helping families of young children (newborn to age 5) develop, practice and maintain habits of reading together at home. Our work, which both increases access to books and offers families tools and support for strengthening the culture of reading at home, is driven by 25 years of research that shows the single most significant factor influencing a child's lifelong achievement is being regularly read to by their parents and adult caregivers before starting kindergarten. Learn more and become a supporter online www.raisingareaderma.org.
