Help for Victims of Superstorm Sandy
From Team JAB Breezy Point

JABBERS, our hearts go out to the millions of people in the Northeast dealing with death and destruction from Superstorm Sandy. It is devastating to watch the images emerging from such a horrible act of nature. One image that haunts us is of the 110 homes in Breezy Point, New York, that burned to the ground during the storm. JAB's own Kati Foley's family is from the small Long Island beach town of Breezy Point, which along with fire-ravaged homes, is dealing with horrific flooding. To help residents of Breezy Point, Kati and her cousin, Erin, are collecting diapers, formula and winter clothes to send back to their hometown. If you would like to donate, collection points will be set up in Coral Gables and Weston from now until Tuesday, November 6th. For drop off information, please email Kati HERE. Thank you, JABBERS.

Light the Way

From Mary Claire Espenkotter:  REPLY
One of my most cherished wedding gifts is a traditional table lamp given to me by my mother's dear friend. The other night, there was a loud pop inside of the lamp (in the base, not the lightbulb) and it won't turn on anymore. Do you know where I can get it repaired? I think the entire interior of the base needs to be fixed. I appreciate your advice!

The 3.8 Percent Mystery Tax Explained

By Ashley Cusack, EWM Realtors:  REPLY Tax

People have been asking me about rumors of a new 3.8 percent real estate tax starting in 2013. Let's discuss what this tax is, as it's not a sales tax nor a transfer tax on real estate sales. In 2013, there will be a new tax on investment income obtained from interest, dividends, rents and capital gains. Single taxpayers with incomes less than $200,000 and married taxpayers with incomes less than $250,000 are NOT subject to this tax! The tax is only due on amounts in excess of the $200,000/$250,000 income amounts. And even then, if your total income is more than these amounts, a formula will protect some portion of your investment. In addition, it does not affect the capital gains exclusions on the sale of a principal residence. For more information, I encourage you to read more about it HERE. This limited information should not be relied upon in making investment decisions.  Seek the advice of your tax advisor. To visit my website, click HERE.*
