Caroline and Aly
Boo's daughters at
their magic party

Dear JABBERS: Do you remember your childhood birthday parties? I remember almost every single one ... my fourth birthday party at Disney World, the celebration at my grandparents' home in Texas when I turned six, and the surprise rolling skating extravaganza my parents planned when I turned ten (arguably my favorite). And, who could forget the intimate soiree at a Japanese restaurant when I turned 12, which featured more tween drama than fancy knife tricks. Each one was special and unique and it's only now, as an adult and mother of two, that I can appreciate the effort that went into planning the perfect celebration.

Planning a birthday party is one of the finest memories, both of being a child and of having one. From the venue to the theme to the colors to the favors, each party reflects the personality of the birthday boy or girl. And, there is always one perfectly joyous moment during any celebration when you know that all the planning was worth it.

We hope this Special Edition serves as a valuable resource  to those of you who are planning kid-friendly parties, events or fun times with family and friends, with your children at the core.

Happy JABBING!

JABBERS' Pick: Party Favors!
From Team JAB Canvas Party
We asked you for suggestions on great party favors and the response was amazing! Here are a few ideas that really wowed both kids and parents:

Paint a Masterpiece
Christine Hartsook said, "For my daughter's second birthday, I had all the kids paint their own canvas so they had artwork as a party favor. Parents loved it!"

Fish Fancy
Debra Baradat said, "I gave beta fish as a favor for my son's shark themed eighth birthday party. They are super low maintenance and the everyone loved them! The kids would update me on their fish all of the time and many had their fish for three years. I also gave a starter kit of fish food."

It's a Science
Clara Palatchi said, "For a science party, I ordered test tubes and filled each with different candies. Kids loved them!"

Treasure Hunting
Amanda Ross said, "My favorite (and the kids too!) was a recent 'treasure' for my son's Jake and the Neverland Pirate Party. Each child got a treasure bag with a eye patch and a few gold doubloons. They went on a treasure hunt and then got to pick "treasure" from a treasure box. The treasure included bead necklaces, lollipops, feathers, 'diamonds' and more gold coins. They also got a treasure map and pixie dust for their treasure hunt."

Candy Land
Kimberly Hale said, "Candy buffets are a big hit every time. They provide guests with a fun, interactive experience and everyone loves candy! Created with theme or event specific colors, they also become part of your decor. They are the perfect party favor!"

Lost and Found
Laura Heller said, "One friend made luggage tags for our kids' backpacks. One side was a stick figure and child's first name and the other side said " If lost, please call my mommy" with the cell number of the child's mom. So cute! You can find so many great, custom ideas on Etsy.com."

Monkey Around
Rebecca Amster said, "For my son's second zoo themed party I gave out Barrel of Monkeys games. It was a hit!"

It's a Draw
Adriana Riviere-Badell said, "My son loves to draw so instead of giving away goody bags that most parents end up throwing away, I took one of my son's drawings and put it on a t-shirt. Parents and kids loved it!"
