The Reno Gazette Journal hosts Faith Forum on Sundays.  A question is answered by clergy from many faiths.  Rabbi Beyer provides the Jewish response.

RGJ asked:  Can a human forgive another human?

Forgive Others
Sins may be between people, or between us and G-d. Sins between us and G-d include: worshipping something besides G-d, harming ourselves by poor choices (drugs, alcohol, food or even failing to rest), or evil thoughts. For those sins, we ask G-d to forgive us.

For sins between people, granting forgiveness helps maintain a healthy outlook on life. With either sin, a person must acknowledge the wrong, apologize sincerely, compensate the injured (if possible) and agree to never do it again.  Wrongs may be committed by both people.  Be first to seek forgiveness.  Stop thoughts of revenge and wishing bad things on the other.  Next, let go of anger and resentment.  If we cruelly fail to forgive (ourselves, others or G-d), we harm ourselves.  Our Sages say we are judged by G-d the way we judge others. May we be able to grant, as well as to find forgiveness.

Faith Forum appears each Sunday in the Local Life Section of the Reno Gazette Journal. Faith Forum clergy answer a question posed each week and responses in the paper are limited to 150 words. Rabbi Beyer is featured as the "Jewish" response. In February 2016 it will be 5 YEARS for Faith Forum column to run in the RGJ.  This interfaith group is now working towards a book which would be an edited collection of these columns. Temple Beth Or is an evolving group dedicated to Jewish values and learning. We support chevruta study (partner or small group study) and "experiencing" G-d.  Friday night Shabbat services are musical, filled with ruach (enthusiasm) and the food is sweet.  Beth Or is affiliated with the Jewish Community of Elko County. Rabbi Beyer also works with North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation, Tahoe Vista, Lake Tahoe.
