The Reno Gazette Journal's FAITH FORUM ASKS:
Do Americans hold clergy in high regard?  What influence do clergy have?   Rabbi Beyer writes,

RABBI AS SPIRITUAL COACH

Clergy who journey toward "enlightenment," the "Great Mystery" or whatever we know as "G-d" often choose that because it's their life's mission. It's a calling - regardless of who listens or who is influenced. The numbers of people influenced matter less than the quality of spiritual inspiration provided to individuals, as illustrated here: A man asked a boy, "Why throw a starfish back to sea when thousands of them cover the beach? Why bother?" The boy said, "It matters to that one."

Did you know rabbis work as spiritual coaches with congregants? We're a guide toward deeper, meaningful life fulfillment. Rabbis spend five years post-college learning about G-d, people and ourselves. We are grounded in sacred texts and holy work to provide a Jewish path, guiding seekers toward G-d through prayer, chanting and holy learning. Interested in experiencing G-d? Soul-searching? Seeking enlightenment? I'm on the transformation team. What about you?
Faith Forum appears each Sunday in the Local Life Section of the Reno Gazette Journal. Faith Forum clergy answer a question posed each week and responses in the paper are limited to 150 words.

Rabbi Beyer is featured as the "Jewish" response. In February 2013 it was 2 YEARS for Faith Forum column in the RGJ.  This interfaith group is now working towards a book which would be an edited collection of these columns. See their website at www.nevadafaithforum.org

MISSION TO ISRAEL

Attached please find the itinerary for the May 2013 trip.  October's itinerary is almost identical and the final October itinerary will be ready in a couple of weeks.

The group will be departing the United States via El Al Airlines from Los Angeles on Sunday, October 20th and arriving in Israel on Monday afternoon, October 21st.  We will depart Israel on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 1:00 a.m. (Wednesday night) and will arrive back in the United States on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 7:40 a.m. (same day due to the 10 hour time difference).

The tour begins Tuesday morning, October 22nd, and by arriving in Israel one day early everyone will have the opportunity to relax and adjust to the time change before the tour begins.

The land portion rate which is approximately $3,000 per person (double occupancy) is being finalized due to an extra night in Israel.  There is an additional supplement of approximately $1,300 for single travellers.

Round Trip Airfare -  Los Angeles non-stop to Tel Aviv on El Al Israel Airlines:

Coach -  $1,395.97 per person

Temple Beth Or is an evolving group dedicated to Jewish values and learning. We support chevruta study (partner or small group study) and "experiencing" G-d.  Friday night Shabbat services are musical, filled with ruach (passion) and the food is sweet.  Ongoing partner includes the Jewish Community of Elko County.  Nevada Hillel (Jewish student group at UNR) has revamped and is now "Hillel of Northern Nevada."
