5 Tips: Helmets
Woman wearing a bicycle helmet

Wearing a helmet is the most important thing any cyclist can do to prevent serious injuries. Whether or not you consider yourself a "serious" rider, you should have a helmet on no matter where or how far you ride.

Buying and wearing your helmet does not have to be a painful process. The staff at Century Cycles has years of experience in fitting helmets for adults and children of all abilities, sizes, and budgets. Here are five tips to keep in mind as you shop for your next helmet:

Where We Ride: Friendsville Freebie Fifty / Fall Foliage & Frostbite Frolic

The FFF/FFFF Ride is an informal group ride organized by the Medina County Bicycle Club, held on the last Saturday in October. You don't have to wait until the fall, though, to enjoy this 50-mile ride through the scenic back roads of Medina County.

2013 Bike To School Challenge Statistics

The biggest bike-to-school program in the U.S. got even bigger this year! Our 6th annual Bike to School Challenge wrapped up on May 24 and it was the best year ever, with participation rising an amazing 11% and its impact being felt as far away as Australia!

Also amazing? Our generous co-sponsors who helped make it happen (like Honey Hut, Bike Cleveland, and Subway restaurants) and in particular Raleigh Bicycles. The bike manufacturer showed its dedication to youth bicycling and Northeast Ohio by generously providing 16 bicycles as student grand prizes; $4,000 to the cities of Bay Village, Rocky River, and Medina for bicycling improvements; $3,000 to the five participating schools; and a $1,000 college scholarship! If you ride a Raleigh, you have reason to be very proud.

Also dedicated? Students like Paityn Nicolosi, an 8th grader who was taught to ride a bike by Century Cycles' own Mike Petcher, just so she could bike to school with her fellow students (read her inspiring story here: http://bit.ly/1bcp9Kx), and the 447 students who biked every single day of the challenge (all 15 school days, rain or shine)!

June 2013 Poll Image Take our latest online poll!

There are specially-formulated "recovery drinks" that provide just the right amount of nutrients for post-exercise recovery. However, some studies have shown that the humble chocolate milk, or a dark beer, also make great recovery beverages. Then there's the time-honored tradition of the post-ride cappuccino or espresso.

What's your favorite recovery drink after a long ride? Click here to take our latest online poll and let us know!

The results of last month's poll "Have you ever biked to work?" were a mix of good news and bad news. Over half of those responding (57%) have biked to work, and 29% continue to do so on a regular basis, but 28% have not recently. However, 40% do not have any plans to ride to work. You can see the full results of the last poll here.
