"All Hail the Ale!" Night Ride on the Towpath Trail

All Hail the Ale Night Ride It's coming this weekend! Join us to celebrate Cleveland Beer Week on two wheels at Century Cycles' 3rd Annual All Hail the Ale Night Ride on the Towpath Trail on Saturday, October 20, at 7:30 p.m.

This FREE nighttime bicycle ride will begin at our store in Peninsula (1621 Main Street/Route 303) and will end at the Winking Lizard Tavern next door with the tapping of Sierra Nevada Best Bitter beer (an English-style pale ale, full-flavored yet easy-drinking) provided especially for the event, and the drawing for great prizes, including Best Costume! For more information (and to see LOTS of photos of cool beer costumes!), go to:

Our Customers DO Win!

Congratulations to Lindsey Bower, the winner of the My Reasons To Ride Cleveland Video Contest! The folks at Raleigh Bicycles agonized over all the 60+ entries, and presented the Raleigh Cadent i8 bicycle to Lindsey during our award ceremony at the Rocky River store on October 4. Here's Lindsey's winning entry:

Lindsey was not the only winner that night; since the goal of over 50 video submissions was reached, Raleigh also presented a check for $5,000 to Bike Cleveland to help them in their mission of making Northeast Ohio a better place for bicycling!

You can see photos from the event, as well as view the other videos from the contest runners-up (as well as a couple of our favorites) by going to:

The following week, another Raleigh Cadent i8 bicycle was presented to Donna Winfield, the winner of the grand prize drawing at the finale party for Deagan's Bike Night on October 11! Beginning in June, customers who rode their bike to Deagan's Kitchen & Bar in Lakewood after 5:00pm every Thursday earned 15% off their food and beverage bill, and a chance to win the bicycle and other prizes supplied by Century Cycles, Raleigh Bicycles, and Deagan's.

Tracey BradnanWhere We Ride: A Family Ride on the Towpath Trail

Now is a wonderful time to ride the Towpath Trail with your family - cool temperatures, fewer crowds, and beautifully-colored autumn leaves in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. However, your family may include a cranky 'tween who begrudges any bike ride longer than a quick trip to a friend's house.

Tracey Bradnan has one of those. When she's not doing Century Cycles' marketing and events (or modeling her beer armor, at right, for this weekend's "All Hail the Ale!" Night Ride), she's figuring out ways to get her 12-year-old bookworm on a bike. One of her solutions is this month's Where We Ride (and probably the simplest ride we've ever featured).

Tech Talk: Bikes for Heavy Riders

Rigid Mountain Bike Q. I am a very overweight person, and I'm thinking about getting into cycling to improve my health. Is there a bicycle for me?

This is a question that we receive on a regular basis. We commend these individuals for their commitment to get in shape, and we assure them that yes, EVERYONE can enjoy the benefits of cycling.

To read about some special considerations plus-size riders need to make when choosing a bicycle, check out this article:

Oct. 2012 Poll Image Take our latest online poll!

It's presidential election season, so it's time to tell our leaders that "I Bike, and I Vote!"

Obama and Romney
Last month's poll asked,
"Bicycles built for two: What's your verdict on tandems?" The largest number of respondents (42%) either have a tandem already, or want to get one. However, the next largest (24%) said "Heck no - solo is the way to go." You can see the full results of the last poll here
