Greetings!
It is a pleasure to invite you to take part in Animals' Angels fourth annual Light the Sky event on Saturday, December 1, 2012. We will meet on this night with thousands of candles to Light the Sky for the animals - to cast a light against the darkness and symbolically alleviate suffering. This is a time to step back and reflect on our purpose and our respect for the animals, their fates and the conditions.
Light the Sky is also when we remember the animals who have crossed our paths during 2012 - the many horses, cows, calves, pigs, sheep, goats, chicken, turkeys and dogs that we met at auctions, feedlots and slaughter plants. It is a time to renew our resolve.
This year, Animals' Angels will be in Toyahvale, TX, where thousands of horses pass through each month on their way to a gruesome death at a Mexican slaughter plant.
Our host Neta Rhyne, seventh generation Cherokee, compares this modern day "Trail of Slaughter" for horses to the infamous "Trail of Tears" her ancestors endured:
"The trail to the export holding pens in Presidio runs along my property. This trail is travelled by thousands of equine every week en route to the Presidio export pens where they are held until crossing the border into Mexico and slaughtered. There have been many Trails Of Tears throughout history. Each one with its own defining moment. There are many tears shed along the trail to Presidio. Tears of sorrow shed by those of us who know all too well the horrors that await at the end of this trail."
Animals' Angels choose this location to bring much needed attention to this area and the plight that our horses face every single day.
We hope you will participate by donating candle(s) to our event and sending us your personal message of hope. |
