He offered, we applied, and he said yes! As featured on his Saving Bookstores, Saving Lives page, in 2014, author James Patterson (author of MANY books including Treasure Hunters, Middle School series, Alex Cross, Maximum Ride, etc.) gave away over a million dollars to bookstores across the country. His independent bookstore campaign has been featured in the New York Times and Publisher's Weekly as well as on CBS This Morning and NPR Morning Edition. 

Mr. Patterson dedicated these funds to encourage children to read. The grant process was open to any bookstore with a dedicated focus on children's books. A partial quote from the grant award letter reads:

The work that you and your fellow booksellers do is saving lives every day. It's saving our country's literature. You support schools. You make our communities better places to live. You help create a lasting love of reading in children and adults.

In 2015, James Patterson will continue to support independent bookstores in innovative ways and will champion a new initiative centered on getting our kids reading and supporting school libraries.
