Each year, Medicare beneficiaries are allowed to voluntarily enroll in a Medicare outpatient prescription drug program ("Medicare Part D"). The law that authorizes this Medicare benefit also imposes an obligation on employer groups that provide prescription drug coverage to Medicare beneficiaries. Employers must disclose to all group members (members, retirees, spouses and dependents) who are eligible to enroll in Medicare Part D, whether the employer group coverage is "creditable prescription drug coverage."

Please note that the deadline for employers to notify employees is October 15, 2013, for the 2014 Medicare open enrollment. We recently began mailing our annual prescription drug creditable coverage notices to our clients.
