GUIDELINES FOR SUBMITTING TO AHURA'S LIST |
1) Ahura's List is not on a set schedule; It's sent out more or less weekly. If you have a time-sensitive item, please submit it early to be sure it's included. Send to: ahuraslist@yahoo.com
2) Each item initially runs twice: first under 'New' & the next time under 'Repeat.' No item runs continuously or indefinitely.
3) Keep it SHORT & SIMPLE - It's your responsibility to edit 'forwards' or any lengthy item to a reasonable length. Include contact info, & links for readers who want to know more. Do NOT submit flyers, press releases & attachments; Write up what you want to say, keeping it as succinct as possible. Ahura's List reserves the right to edit submissions for length & clarity.
4) If you submit an item you will be 'subscribed' (free); If you want to unsubscribe, you can easily do so at the end of any Ahura's List (However we will not be able to reinstate you if you opt out, then change your mind)

This is not a series, but an ongoing Tuesday evening experience, which may include any of the following: discourse, meditation, chanting, storytelling, spiritual exercises, readings. By donation. NEW! MINDFUL YOGA FOR ARTHRITIS COURSE AT RISING TIDE
Tuesdays, Oct 6 - Dec 8, 10-11:30AM - This 10-week course is led by Surapsari, certified yoga instructor, at Rising Tide International, 5102 Swift Rd, Sarasota. The class aims to ease arthritic symptoms, improve range of motion, and strengthen the muscles around the joints. All the standing poses can be done in a chair. Various modifications and props are offered to make every pose and movement accessible to every participant. Pre-registration is required. Within us lies an infallible sense of guidance that leads us to happiness, & that may be called Divine in its truest meaning. Our difficulty lies in turning away from the distractions & the noise of the external world so that we can learn to recognize that voice. Pir Zia Inayat Khan will guide participants on this journey with stories, sacred sound & breath practices, contemplative perspectives & meditative practices. This weekend will provide an opportunity to explore the inner life & immerse oneself in the sacred.
PIR ZIA INAYAT-KHAN, Head of the Sufi Order, is a scholar and teacher of Universal Sufism in the lineage of his grandfather, Hazrat Inayat Khan. He received his Ph.D. in Religion from Duke University. Pir Zia is president of the Sufi Order International and founder of Suluk Academy, a school of contemplative study with branches in the United States and Europe. Pir Zia exemplifies a new generation of spiritual teachers. He is keenly aware of the needs of the present day, of a world in crisis, & an emerging spirituality of the future, built upon the centuries-old tradition of the Sufi Masters. He is also founder of the inter-spiritual institute, Seven Pillars House of Wisdom. He lives with his wife and two children in rural upstate New York. pirzia.org

AUTUMNAL EQUINOX CELEBRATION AT LIDO
Friday, Sept 25, 7pm sharp at South Lido Beach - Gulf Side. Gong Meditation & Wishing Well Tree, with Carol Randaci & Hannah Remy. For women, Men & Teen Children, By donation.
The Fall Equinox signals the season of balance in a time to harvest, receiving all the bounty of the earth. It gives us an opportunity to reflect on our own Inner Harvest. How do we balance personal needs with commitments to the world? How do we receive and how do we share our bounty? How do we release the things that no longer benefit our life? How do we support the healing of humanity? The water? The animals?
You were asked to bring back containers from any body of water visited in your summer travels. Water gathered from sites across the country will be blessed and returned to the ocean in a sacred ceremony (which starts promptly at 7). Sounds of the Gongs and voices will be added to the atmosphere as prayers are offered for the benefit of all creatures, big and small.
Bring water you've collected, chairs, blankets, flashlights & your graceful intentions. Think about these 3 things as you'll be asked to write down your answers which will be hung on the Wishing Well Tree: The things you're grateful for in your life; The things you want to bring into your life; The things you want released from your life.

FREE ENTRY TO OSCAR SCHERER STATE PARK (& VOLUNTEERS NEEDED)
On Saturday, Sept 26 - To celebrate National Public Lands Day the public can enjoy FREE ENTRY to Oscar Scherer State Park, as well as live music, tram tours, kids' activities, live animal exhibits, and more.
Music is scheduled from 9:30am-2pm as follows: 9:30-11 - Three Grumpy Old Men (Jim, Dwight, Russ); 11-12 - James Hawkins; 12-1pm - Ishmael Katz; 1:30-2 - Dulcimer & guitar.
Volunteer on that day - Give back to public lands! Come lend a hand with the service project - all participating volunteers will receive free lunch. (Last year's project involved removing invasive plants from the lake area).
