Last week the SUITE New York team had the pleasure of visiting the Carl Hansen & Son showroom to preview their newest products.
There is nothing more exciting than seeing new products in person and the Safari Chair took our collective breath away.

Safari Chair
Kaare Klint designed the Safari Chair and Stool in 1933. Inspired by a British officer’s chair he had seen in a travel guide for Africa, Klint was particularly inspired by a photo in which the author and his wife are seated in similar chairs by the entrance to their tent. His goal was to create a light, portable armchair. The chair can be easily assembled and disassembled without tools, making it ideal for use in the field or the brush.

Safari Chair
The functional chair is often described as the world's first 'build-it-yourself' furniture item, and is the result of comprehensive knowledge of materials and ergonomics. Safari arrives packed in a small box with just a few parts inside; ideal for setting up the most glamorous tailgate in history or simply adding a gentlemanly aesthetic to any space.

The first Safari Chair models were sold to Kaare Klint's colleagues, such as Arne Jacobsen, who saw clear possibilities in the simple, functional style. In fact, Arne Jacobsen was the one who suggested adding a seat cushion to the chair. The Safari Chair is by far Kaare Klint's best known work and more than 100,000 pieces have sold since 1933.

Safari Chair
The frame is available in solid oil-treated ash or smoked ash; the ideal wood for flexibility and comfort. The seat and backrest are available in canvas (natural, blue, green and brown) or leather in selected colors. The armrests are thick leather straps and the seat cushion, which comes with the chair, is available with or without tufted buttons. A matching footstool is available using the same "build-it-yourself" design principals.
