SUITE New York is pleased to announce that we have acquired a new vendor to our collection: Italian mega-manufacturer, Kartell.
Kartell has a long and colorful history, opening as an automobile accessories manufacturer in 1949 and expanding to furnishings in 1963. Working primarily in high-quality plastics, many of Kartell’s most successful contemporary pieces are nods to great classics, such as the Windsor chair and the Louis XVI chair.
Kartell’s collection is immense, so we’ll start by introducing you to a few of their most popular designs...

Louis Ghost
The first chair crafted entirely in crystal clear polycarbonate, the Ghost chair is a playful postmodern triumph of technical innovation by French designer Philippe Starck. Ten years after its unveiling, Kartell’s most recognizable product still does it all: suitable for indoor and outdoor use, available in various colors with or without arms, and stackable up to six chairs high.

Componibili
In continuous production for over 30 years, this organizational design solution was created in 1969 by Kartell-founder Anna Castelli Ferrieri, one of the first women architects to graduate with a degree from the prestigious Milan Polytechnic Institute. Componibili elements can serve as office organization, bathroom storage or bedside tables. It is part of MoMA’s permanent collection and, as one keen staffer points out, doubles as a cat house.

Comback Chair
Brand new for 2012, Patricia Urquiola’s Comback chair for Kartell puts a new spin on the classic Windsor, replacing spindled legs and curved wood with geometric angles in red, black or white thermoplastic technopolymer. Four-leg, pedestal and sled bases available.
