Dan Pollock creates functional, eco-friendly sculptures using cross sections from naturally felled trees such as White Fir, Giant Juniper, Cottonwood and various pines. He shapes and smoothes the surface of each piece to produce stools, side tables, bowls and trays.

The sanding of each piece reveals gentle lines from its life, as well as the occasional abrupt markings of its demise. He stabilizes natural cracks using wooden dowels of the same species and manipulates the exterior coloring with ivory and black dyes, sealing each piece with a high gloss finish.

After 30 years, he has not only self-mastered this unique art form but also garnered loyal A-list fans including Jennifer Aniston and Will Smith. Not that this cowboy would ever boast.

What we find most refreshing is that these sculptures are not “precious.” They are made of a material normally deemed fit as fire wood, yet manage to be luxurious, practical and durable. A little ding here or there only adds to the life story and character of each piece.
