The inaugural event was dubbed the Pink Wishbone Project. Twenty elite women interior designers were asked to create custom cushions for the iconic Wishbone chair by Hans J. Wegner, each lacquered in BCRF’s official Pantone pink. With participants like Celerie Kemble, Lulu DK and Bunny Williams, the event reached bidders from all across the country. Some designs were so personal, they brought tears to our eyes. The sales topper, designed by interior designer Julie Hillman, was purchased by the late Evelyn Lauder herself.

The following year, the Pink Project continued with Arne Jacobsen’s iconic Swan chair. The Pink Swan Project attracted major participants like Margherita Missoni, Kelly Hoppen, Nate Berkus and Jonathan Adler. The auction was featured in dozens of domestic and international publications from Japan and Korea to Greece and Finland. The one-of-a kind chairs sold to buyers all over the world, including three to a major art collector in Belgium.

This year the Pink Jalk Project has set a new bar for the level of craftsmanship and creativity we’ve come to expect from the outstanding designers who participate in this project. From Messana O’Rorke’s DuChamp-ian Radio Flyer Wagon (complete with custom assembly instructions) to Kelly Wearstler’s marquetry design achieved with hundreds of hand-applied Swarovski crystal, each of the twenty chairs is truly outstanding. Participant Deborah Berke Partners even released a video of the making of their chair, which exemplifies the time and effort put in to each design.

Looking back at the countless hours of work it takes to organize this event every year, we couldn’t be happier to do it.  Principals Kris Fuchs & Maria Sepulveda made a promise to Evelyn Lauder that they would continue the Pink Project every year until a cure is found. SUITE New York has every intention of standing by that promise.
