"God's work. Our hands." Sunday

On September 7th, all over  the country ELCA congregations put on yellow shirts and picked up shovels, serving spoons, sewing needles, and hair nets to serve their neighbors locally and globally. Around the Southeastern Iowa Synod congregations joined together and fought hunger, helped children and the elderly, made meals and donated supplies. We're highlighting stories from around the synod from "God's Work. Our Hands."

Check out a collection of stories here.

At the 2014 Southeastern Iowa Synod Assembly the assembly passed a resolution that resolved that the third Sunday of September in 2014 and 2015 be designated as"Definitely-Abled Sunday" within the Southeastern Iowa Synod.

Congregations are invited to participate in Definitely-Abled Sunday on September 21, 2014 or on a Sunday that works best for your congregation. Congregations can participate by:
  • Offering prayers and litanies during worship service
  • Incorporate readings that highlight the capabilities, issues and struggles of those with disabilities. Suggested texts are included in the resolution.
  • During the service or educational hour lift up the work and ministry of MOSAIC and ELCA Disability Ministry
