September Lutheran Supplement
ask the bishop
"...the goal, is to be the church of Jesus Christ as best we can, which means to be the church together. Whenever the listening leads to greater cooperation among and between us, whenever the conversations yield a spark of creative imagination, whenever people of faith embark on new ways of undertaking a common endeavor so that the Good News is shared more clearly, more widely, or more boldly...this is the Spirit at work." Faith in Action
Gloria Dei provides shelter, hospitality, and meals in Cedar Rapids

In the fall of 2012 members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids committed themselves, and their building, to joining Family Promise's Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN). Family Promise, a national nonprofit organization committed to helping homeless and low-income families achieve lasting independence. Gloria Dei's motto is "Others First" and joining Family Promises's Interfaith Hospitality Network in Cedar Rapids fit perfectly with the congregation's commitment to serve their community by opening the church to people in need offering shelter, hospitality and meals.
