Remember in Prayer

Almighty and everlasting God, the one in three and three in one, we lift all those who care for children. We ask that you bless those who have "fathered" us in their roles as parents, mentors and guides.

WITNESSES
One Actor * Eight Characters * A Fresh Look at Jesus

The worship drama, "Witnesses" will be performed at Luther Memorial Church located at 1201 Grandview Ave, Des Moines on Friday, June 20 from 6:30-8:00pm.  The one-man play, written by Curt Cloninger, features professional actor and speaker, Jonathan P. Swenson. A free-will offering will be received.

In this dramatic and very personal performance, Swenson portrays eight different characters (historical and imagined) as each responds to Jesus. Through the eyes of these characters, both comic and serious, the audience is challenged to see Jesus from fresh perspectives; not cold and distant, but as one who was intimately involved in the "nitty-gritty" of life.

The event raised more

prevention, services to families, services to refugees, services to people with disabilities and therapy for youth who have experienced trauma.

Shout-out for Team ELCA
We are in the middle of synod assembly season. All synods will meet, vote, discuss, worship and sing. I will be at five of these and can assure you that, though there are delightful regional
bishop eaton
flavors, they will be remarkably similar. If we were to take a voting member from the Pacifica Synod meeting in Hawaii this year and plunk her down in the hills of Pennsylvania at the Allegheny Synod Assembly, she would recognize what was going on.

Each year from April to June a remarkable thing happens across this church. We come together. Members of synods participate together in the work of the ELCA and like it! Congregations see the work we do together as the ELCA all across this country and around the world and have a sense that they are part of something greater than themselves and are proud of it. For a few shining days we believe and live the words of Paul: "So we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another" (Romans 12:5). Keep reading...
