Lifting up the Churchwide Assembly
Always Being Made New is the theme for the thirteenth biennial assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, August 12-17. Eighteen voting members will attend from the Southeastern Iowa Synod, including Bishop Michael Burk.
Members and congregations can be engaged with the churchwide assembly (CWA) in several important ways:

- Familiarize yourself with the items of discussion that will be before the CWA (View pre-assembly report online.) Voting members will elect a Presiding Bishop, elect a new secretary, discuss and vote on a Social Statement on Criminal Justice, approve budget proposals for the next three years (2014-2016), and will give consideration to holding a churchwide appeal in honor of the ELCA's 25th anniversary.
