Get the skills and resources needed to Grow Your Business! The curriculum will include skill-building sessions and applied projects that will offer participants new perspectives on their ventures and guide them in refining their business models. Participants will work with the program facilitators, FFN staff, food system leaders, investors, and each other to refine and accelerate their ventures. The three-day session will culminate with a pitch session in which entrepreneurs will present their plans to a panel of investors and compete for an award of up to $10,000 in consulting services. Department of Agriculture Celebrates Centenary Open House October 22, 10am - 2pm
One hundred years ago this month, the state legislature voted to abolish the state Board of Agriculture and establish a state Department of Agriculture. Save the date for a 100th birthday celebration on October 22. The Board of Agriculture, precursor to the Department, began in the mid 1800s with the primary function of providing educational lectures and programs around the state for farmers. By the 1890s, the Board had taken on efforts to rebuild the state's rural economy, and initiated measures to control animal diseases and crop pests, and unscrupulous marketing of fertilizers and feeds to farmers.
