Hannah Grimes Center's 8th Annual CONNECT Event
Underwriting Opportunities:

Thank you to Mike Hoefer of HoeferWeb Internet Marketing & Strategy for becoming our first sponsor this year!

FROM MAK:

We value diversity in nature as a way to weather change.  We understand that diversity in the economy gives communities strength and the ability to weather change.  Yet most economic development efforts rarely support diversity.  Instead, these efforts generally center around what any given organization or region or political wind currently considers The Most Important Thing.

Is The Most Important Thing new businesses, small business, locally-owned business, high-growth business, existing business?  What is most important - a healthy creative economy, manufacturing sector, educated work force, business incubation, the availability of funding at each stage of growth, attracting new business, or the cost of health care?  And if there is A Most Important Thing, will it change in two years with changes in your community or the economy?

We live in a complex, quickly changing world.  The response to the complex, quickly changing opportunities and problems needs to be a flexible structure of highly connected, creative, entrepreneurial resources that can easily flow together to solve problems and develop opportunity. Just as diversity and resilience is important to a region's economy, diversity and resilience in a region's economic development efforts is vital.   Hannah Grimes has recognized the importance of supporting a diverse economy and works every day to provide resources to a wide variety of elements in our community that contribute to its strength and resiliency.

How do we create a thriving local economy and vibrant community?  It will be by addressing all of these issues, they are all important.  That means that every single person reading this has something absolutely vital to contribute to a strong economy and community.   With great passion, curiosity and vision, we invite you to join together to recognize problems and opportunities in our community and to craft a creative, collaborative, effective and common sense response.

The rapid pace of change gives us ample opportunity to make change - let's make it for the good!

Keep up the good work,

Mak
