FROM MAK:

Community After Hours

Despite recent economic challenges and increased demand on nonprofits during the current economic climate, the sector has seen a modest growth of about 2% annually. Latest figures show that the 8,401 organizations comprising New Hampshire's nonprofit sector employ 102,000 individuals, which is 1 in 7 of the state's workforce. The impact to the state's bottom line is over $9 billion per year to state GDP -- 15.1%.

Our business community and local economy benefit from the healthy and vibrant region which the vital programs provided by the region's nonprofit organizations offer. Hannah Grimes is a nonprofit, so are the
organizations that provide a clean environment, recreation, mental health, education, child care, health care, historic preservation, arts and culture and much more that benefit all of us, our families and our  employees. Likewise, nonprofits benefit greatly from the support and expertise they receive from this community's businesses and business leaders.

Jane Jacobs, an activist and journalist in the mid-twentieth century, talked about the great innovation and new ideas spawned at the intersecting edges of two different cultures. We invite you to join the jumble of business, nonprofit, staff, board, employees, funders and community members at our Community After Hours on Wednesday, June 12 from 5-7 to see what new connections you can make and what great ideas we can spawn to keep our community and our economy strong. Great local food and drink will be available thanks to the generous support of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. We will also celebrate the vibrant art of Robert D'Arcy in our Artist Gallery and hear from Dick Ober, President of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. I hope to see you there.

Keep up the good work,

Mak
