Why We Can't Shop Our Way to a Better Economy: Stacy Mitchell's TEDx Talk
By Stacy Mitchell
Originally posted at the Institute for Local Self Reliance
In this TEDx talk, delivered on October 20, 2012, ILSR Senior Researcher Stacy Mitchell argues for a new phase in the local economy movement. She notes that there's been a resurgence of support for small farms, local businesses, and community banks, but argues:
"As remarkable as these trends are, they are unlikely to amount to more than a small sideshow on the margins of the mainstream if the only way we can conceive of confronting corporate power and bringing about a new economy is through our buying decisions... What we really need to do is change the underlying policies that shape our economy. We can't do that through the sum of our individual behavior in the marketplace. We can only do it by exercising our collective power as citizens."

SMART Goals for 2013
Presented by Dave Chase
Friday, December 14, 8:00 - 9:00 a.m.
Hannah Grimes Center, Keene
This is the time of year when we set resolutions for ourselves for the year ahead. Such goal setting is always a good thing to do on a personal level - and it is also a great idea to think about setting such resolutions for your nonprofit! However, if they are to have a chance of working, these 2013 goals need to be SMART ones - that is, goals that are:
Strategic, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic, and Timebound.
Have an idea of some things you'd really like to see happen at your nonprofit in the year ahead - but unsure of how to frame these in such a way to best make them a reality? At this session, you'll have the opportunity to share your ideas and learn how to frame them as SMART goals in collaboration with others on your nonprofit's board and staff to help make them happen in 2013! Cost: free. Registration is required to attend this roundtable. Click here to register or for more information contact Jillian at Hannah Grimes or call 603-352-5063.
